Building Lean Muscle

When first beginning's muscle building lifestyle, building lead muscle should hold a position of priority.  Your goal should not be to get bigger just for the sake of getting bigger.  Increasing your fat level is a way to get bigger, but it flies in the face of what you're actually trying to accomplish.  It makes no sense to get big if you can't see any definition.  Adding cardio to your lifting work out combined with proper nutrition will insure that you are adding lean muscle mass while losing fat at the same time.

There are four thing that you need to understand when you are attempting to build lean muscle.

Muscle Confusion

Lean muscle can be built by cutting your rest periods down and increasing the weight you use when exercising.  Limiting the amount of rest between your sets to around 30 seconds, so that your heart rate and the lactic acid levels decreases slightly.  You should also confuse your muscles by changing the length of the rest time you are taking in between sets. You'll burn extra calories by using this form of muscular confusion and you'll be able to see your muscles respond and get bigger.

Strength Training

Training with this method will release large amounts of hormones and use your bodies larger muscle fibers, rather than working out the smaller more individual muscles and allow you to burn more calories even after you have finished your workout.  The real goal is to build strength and take your program up to the next level.

Cardio Training

Cardio training is crucial to building lean muscle.  Whether it's through a stationary bike, walking on a treadmill, or using an elliptical machine, cardio exercise will help you reach your goals.  Lean muscle can be hard to see if it is buried behind layers of fat, which you can lose through the use of cardio training.

Nutrition And Protein

Proper nutrition is a key part of building lean muscle.  Eating only foods that will help you achieve your goals is important, and protein is a major part of that proper nutrition, and it needs to be consumed everyday.  The right amounts of protein is important, because your body is only capable of taking in a certain amount of protein.  Building lean muscle mass requires you to take in one gram of protein for every pound of lean muscle mass.  When first starting out bodybuilding, you can apply the older formula for protein intake by using one gram of protein for each pound of body weight.  One you are a little more experienced you can switch to the newer formula.

If you keep these four key aspects in your mind and utilize, muscle confusion, strength training, cardio and nutrition you will find yourself adding more lean muscle mass.
